Sunday Brunch again? Already? You're Joking Right? Solitary walks, Grand Re-Openings, Flower walks with friends, and Countdown to Red King Crab and DC

In Less than 2 Months Red King Crab Season Begins again In Dutch Harbor/Unalaska!! What will the guys on these boats return to? Town has changed a bit over the Summer. The Smoking ban is no in full effect in all public places and work enviroments. Unless Sig quit for longer than Three hours (about 2 weeks now for me) he and the rest of the guys will have to be outside at least 15-20 feet from any main entrance. Several of the Docks are also no longer allowing smoking since it is a "Work Enviroment". Going to be interesting watching them unload the Crab.....LOL

Yes Junior, I agree, it is FAR to early to be up after a busy Saturday night. And No, I can not believe it is Sunday already either.

Still, the Fruit platter looks wonderful.............

..........As do the "salads", especially the peppers stuffed with cheese.

The Steak is wonderful as well, but this week it is.............

..........all about the Desserts!!!! Rich has been showing Junior lots of great techniques, and giving him the freedom to run with it, thus resulting in some amazing treats today!!

Creme Brulee's, Parfaits...............

.........tarts, rolls and cheesecake.............

........baklava ...............
and my favorite, a chocolate mousse "pyramid" on a raspberry glaze with whipped cream.

Jeff, and Willie for Janice!!

And Junior making smoothies at the last minute.

Today as we enjoy brunch you can actually watch the Salmon Junmpingin Margaret's Bay.....

..........and watch the people out there fishing and catching them.

It's been a weird week weatherwise up here. Bouts of sun that are suddenly gone as thick layers of fog creep quickly over the island. The Plane service has been a bit erratic, especially to the outer islands, and thus the mail has been going in spurts and sputs. Which is sorta OK for me because I have been a bad blogger and have not yet mailed out Sea Glass to my winners. I promise to TRY HARDER this week everyone!!!

I got to take a few good walks this week around Bunker Hill and Little South America later in the evenings. (This is about 9pm)

I have really been noticing the flowers this week, probably because they soon will be gone.......

I have been walking by this for a few weeks now on my cicrular route around Bunker and Finally thought to capture it. Only in Unalaska could the Fire Department leave this fully hooked up and ready to go and have no one mess with it. I assume it is to clean the muck from the road when it is messy from all the construction back at the new small boat harbor. In Florida this would have been stolen in less than an Hour and the water would have been turned on full blast just for kicks. Even Kids bike by this on a daily basis and no one has touched it. God I love this island.

Except for a bit in the first picture I failed to capture this awesome Rainblow blot that was formed as the fog rolled in the other night. These pictures do it scant justice but I still wanted to share them.

The Biggest Citywide Social event of the week is not the Aleutians Music Festival, Or the Coast Guard Boats that are in, or even the Cruise ships. It was the Grand Re-Opening of "The Store that shall not be named", now called Safeway. Literally, I have not seen this many people since the Fourth of July Parade, and I think this topped it!!

Music for the evening was provided by Sky, The Goddess of Unisea's HR Department. Ricardo the God of HR is there somewhere in the croud, and Sky's Hubby Eric is in the back on Drums.

So after a Full long day working, and then a two hour slugfest at the grocery store what does CB say when CD wants to go on a Long Hike? Sure!!!

If I had not quit smoking I would have died on the way back (all uphill). After hearing "It's just one more hill" for the FIFTH time on the way back I started calling it "CD's Death March".

Still though, it was lovely........

With all the Waterfalls.........

..............Flowers.................
..........And the Bay at Bever Inlet.

These were just beautiful, Obviously an Orchid based on petal structure, Anyone know the name?

One of the only crossings on the island that makes me nervous. I can climb the cliffs out on Ballyhoo, the Rocks down in Captains Bay, and I love racing over the bolder field out at Summer Bay, but this one with just soil, and soil that is eroding away, just makes me nervous!!

Since he posted the picture on his blog I will now post both of mine. Mean old Alaska Steve was sitting there on his bike as we were coming back down Overland trail. I saw that the person was smoking from behind and thought "That can't be Steve". IT WAS!! He was somking one of his few monthly cigars. Now I call him evil because he offered me One!!!! Naughty Steve. I already called and told Chico to do something bad!!!
Although I have to say I am really proud I said NO!!! And after 4 pieces of Nicotine Gum the shakes stopped. All kidding aside it was not that bad. (Hush Now CD!!!)

Anyway though, Everyone have a great Sunday and I will try to be a better blog poster this next week!!

Seems a regular summer fog "haunts" the Aleutian chain in the AM. Glad it burns off most days so you have nice afternoon and evenng wildflower walks.

Congratulations on a smoke free lifestyle CB!!

Love the pics. Brunch was awesome! Congrats on 2 weeks. I dont think the boys have quit or cut back at all. They need to cut back a bit. Love the hike shots.

Thanks for a "Willie sighting", long time coming. Am super busy as you are so not signing in as often but grateful to have a job. Good luck with quitting smoking, I have tried numerous times only to relapse. Can't imagine how much smokes cost up there, That's icentive enough. At $7.15 a pack here in NJ it should be incentive for me to quit but alas, it is not.
Good luck and hang in there.

A good way to quit smoking, is to determine how many cigarettes you are smoking every day. Then figure out how many of those are habit cigarettes and how many are from the need for nicotine. Start cutting back on your habit cigarettes one or two at a time. This will take a while. Cutting 5 or 6 cigarettes a week is good. Go faster or slower depending on your ability. Once you cut out the cigarettes that you smoke out of habit, start slowly cutting back on the ones you need due to nicotine. use the gum and/or patch to help. By this point you should be at less than a pack a day. If you are determined you can cut cigarettes out altogether within 1 to 2 months depending on how many you started with.

CB brunch was awesome looking as always. The stuffed peppers look yummy. I like the baklava looks scrumptious.I could spend quite a bit of time enjoying brunch and watching the people catch salmon. What a great CD hike/ death March you have some great pictures. The flowers are just so gorgeous. The crossing does look a bit scary there, but the beautiful waterfalls make up for it. The weather your way has been varied lately. It is quite unique that no one has bothered that fire department hose, down here it would have been turned on and things messed with. It will be interesting to see how all the Captains and crew deal with the new smoking ban. I see a large supply of nicotine patches being used LOL. Have a great week and thanks for a scrumptious brunch.

Well, I haven't been to brunch in a while and it's good to be back. Everything looks wonderful as usual. Good for you for kicking the habit! Two weeks will be two months before you know it. Hey, it's about time your little island caught up with the "no smoking" band in public areas. For us non-smokers it's great and believe me, the smokers will find a way to "get out" and have a smoke - even Sig - LOL! These guys are tough enough for the Bering Sea - going outside for a smoke won't bother them at all. Besides, they should still be able to smoke on "their" boat - just not on the dock - right?

cant leave it at 13. bad bad bad. i think the boys will be fine. a few fines and they will rethink their smoking policy lol.

Thank you for my weekly min-vacation and calorie-free meal.

Congrats for healing your lungs and trying them out on nice long hikes, too.

Someone might make a killing selling nicorette or other smoking-cessation products when the DC boys come back to town ... they'd be better off with the caffeine alone versus caffeine and cigs. Even a bit of overeating might be preferable ...

Congratulations on staying smoke-free, CB! The Sunday buffet looks incredible! Does all that food get eaten every week? Hate to think of anything that looks that good going to waste - LOL rather it went to my waist!

CB: Go to MSNBC.com and read the article about the 63 year old woman surviving with 2 cans of Mt. Dew. Kudos to your favorite drink!

Woman, 63, missing for 5 days found on raft
Survives with only two cans of Mountain Dew and a bottle of water

hi there everyone. I'm actually into shoes and I have been digging for that particular model. The prices seeking the velcros are about 310 dollars on every page. But completely I base this locate selling them for the benefit of half price. I really like those gucci sneakers. I will probably buy them. what can you tell me about these?
