What sad news, just read it in a dutch newspaper. I was hoping he'd pull through and was just watching an old DC episode where he decided not go fish because his doctor considered it a bad idea.

Your in my prayers, Captain Phil.

I really cannot get my thoughts organized on this. I will miss Phil's wit and wisdom. My heart goes out to his boys, and to Cornelia. He touched a lot of lives in his relatively short life.

Brian - Please give Freddie and Vanessa a hug for me. This news is just terrible. There's a huge hole in my heart. It felt as though we all knew him. He is now free of pain and our pain is just beginning. Time and all of our many memories will help all of us heal.

Please give Freddie and Vanessa love from all of your blog followers. I will be praying for all of his family and friends...my heart is sad and goes out to all of his loved ones. He was way too young and had too much life left. I can't even imagine what his boys are going through. Thanks CB.

"DO NOT STAND AT MY GRAVE"
By Mary Frye

I give you this one thought to keep -
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning's hush
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still - in each new dawn.

I'm just so so sad. My husband is in the Navy, this is known as the Navy Hymn...

Eternal Father, Strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bid'st the mighty Ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
O hear us when we cry to thee,
for those in peril on the sea.

Godspeed Captain Phil

My heart hurts and I want to just sit and cry for a while, but Phil would not like that I think. I send prayers to the Harris family and friends. Jesus is the fisher of men, He just caught Himself a big one! He will be miss by more people than ever imagined. Cheri

It is a sad day in Dutch Harbor today. Phil was loved by many here on the island. He was our friend long before the show.
There seems to be a hush on the island today. Rest in peace my long time friend.
Phil was recently at at a loss for words when long time resident Tom Sandel died. Hope you guys get together
I will miss you dearly.

They that go down to the sea in ships,
That do business in great waters,
These see the works of the Lord
And his wonders in the deep.
For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind,
Which lifteth up the waves thereof,
They mount up to the heaven,
They go down again to the depths
Their soul is melted because of trouble.
They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man
And are at their wits end.
Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble,
And he bringeth them out of their distresses.
He maketh the storm a calm,
So that the waves thereof are still.
Then are they glad because they be quiet,
So he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness,
And for all his wonderful works to the children of men!

Psalm 107

May you have fair winds and following seas Captain Phil. You have left a hole in many a heart.

"May flights of angels sing the to thy rest..." I figure Shakespeare's words are far more eloquent than mine. I hope Phil finds a fast corvette and a tricked out hog at the pearly gates.
God bless all who are hurting because of the loss of Capt. Harris.

So hard to believe he's gone. My family has become very attached to these crab fishermen through the show, and Captain Phil was always one of my favorites. His relationship with Josh and Jake made me smile. Just a hard-working man with passion for his job. They are harder to find these days. My thoughts and prayers are with Josh, Jake, the Cornelia Marie crew and his family and friends.

The only thing that went thru my head was " he was suppose to be improving, I don't understand?" - Maybe the Man Upstairs new what hell it would have been for him if he could no longer go out fishing and decided to have mercy.

Sad, sad day......

I have to agree that being unable to fish would have been a fate worse than hell for Capt. Phil.

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night

~ Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieve it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Does anyone know what happened to Captainphilharris.com?? its just like it never existed its awful - alot of his fans would go to that site and many friends were made now that you need people they shut the site down - Shame on them!!!!

Anonymous said...

Just to respond to the question about his Website - I have no information from anyone associated with the site, but with so many people rushing to the site it may have crashed, if the domain name etc was owned by Captain Harris there may be legal issues as to who has the authority to continue running the site - this is just speculation on my part, but I'm sure that Captain Harris' friends who helped run the site are loyal the fans and friends and are doing everything they can to deal with their personal loss and sift through the possible technical/legal issues.

Great story you got here. It would be great to read a bit more about that theme. Thnx for giving this info.

The CM sites have indeed been overwhelmed and are currently down. One of their affiliates is offering their chatroom for fans who wish to gather. MHBradio.com
Bonnie and Helen both have been in the room offering their love and support to everyone. Even in their time of great grief, those who truly knew and loved Phil are offering their time to others. God bless you Bonnie and Helen.

I am still numb. My daughter says I am carrying on as if I knew Phil personally...
Thanks to "Deadliest Catch" and Phil Harris' big heart and confidence in his abilities on the ocean, I feel I did know enough about him to know I would have liked him a whole bunch.
Strength to Josh and Jake and Freddie and anyone who was fortunate enough to get to love Captain Phil in real life ... I still cannot believe it.

RE: Captainphilharris.com... Just wanted to let everyone know that Captainphilharris.com crashed with all the hits on it. The link is still posted on most of the web announcements. It is truly mind-boggling the amount of money per day it would cost to bring the forum back up. Since information is also on Discovery.com, Corneliamarie.com, and Phil's facebooks, and myspaces, people are still being informed. At a later date we will sort it all out. Thanks for your understanding.

Phil used to say Bonnie Rasmussen was his right hand and I was his left hand. Said he'd be lost without us. He's gone but we're both here and will do whatever we can for him and for his sons.

I would like to thank everyone, too, for your kind words about Captain Phil. He will be thought of and sorely missed for a very, very long time. My heart is broken...

Helen

Helen, you and Bonnie were definitely the right and left hand of Phil. The NW forums are up and running and a lot of people are posting there. For those who would like to send a card or letter, an address was provided.

Condolences for Captain Phil Harris can be sent to: PO BOX 32466 AMARILLO, TX 79120-2466 They will be hand-delivered to Josh and Jake.

i agree with you its like we knew a little bit about him because it was a reality show unlike hearing about Brittany Murphy for example. We knew her characters but not her, we never saw her interact with people. with d/c we were peaking thru the window of part of their lives thats why its so hard for some.

CB & all: I just today heard of this and created my own post to try to honor the man he was.

I think Warren Zevon wrote it best, in his last album, The Wind, the song "Keep Me In Your Heart":

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile

If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for while

There's a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for while

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for while

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for while

Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile

You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for while

Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Engine driver's headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for while

These wheels keep turning but they're running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for while

Hello,

I'm in UK and have followed Phil on the TV here in a programme called Deadliest Catch.

I just started a blog today, never done one before, and came accross yours by accident.

What happened to Phil, I didnt know he had passed away, thats a shock?

Hope to see your reply and have subscribed in case you do, so I know what happened to him. Must go and tell my wife she will be very unhappy.

Cheers
